“Nagoya: A Diamond in the Rough?”
Tokyo may be the seat of power, Kyoto the home of traditional culture,
and Osaka the rough-and-tumble market town, but Nagoya is where Japan
rolls up its sleeves and gets down to work. A year on from having
hosted its biggest international event, the 2005 World's Exposition,
and opened its new link to the world in the shape of the major
international Centrair airport, Nagoya is enjoying renewed interest as
quite a happening place. Our March speaker, Justine Bornstein, PhD,
gave us the scoop on the economic power behind Nagoya’s development
plans and challenges it faces to become more than “the largest city
