Professor Kasumi Kitabatake is certainly a man of many talents. He enjoyed a distinguished career in journalism with the Mainichi Newspaper which saw him on assignment in Saigon, Jakarta and Washington.
It was while working as a war correspondent in Vietnam that he was taken prisoner by guerrilla forces as a suspected spy, an experience which he will discuss at the FEW May meeting. TBS Television will be present at the meeting to film his talk for a future television program.
In addition to working for the Mainichi Newspaper, Professor Kitabatake served a three-year term as Editor and Publisher of NEWSWEEK Japan, before entering the world of academia where he taught first at Kansai university of Foreign Studies (1987-1998) and later at Kansai University of International Studies (1998-2005).
