Nearly 1000 years ago Murasaki Shikibu began work on what would become one of the world's greatest novels: The Tale of Genji. The story of Genji paints a picture of the Heian Period when an elite class lived for pleasure and the pursuit of the arts. This talk will explore not only Murasaki's work but will give an overview of life in the Heian Period.
