FEW Kansai Monthly Meeting

October 27, 2022 (via Zoom)

Behind the Scenes in a

Japanese Museum

with

Ayako Takemoto

Japan is the home of a number of museums that have world-class recognition. But for all the fanfare, what really goes on behind the scenes at a museum? What does it take to run a museum and to attract visitors, especially during a pandemic?

Our October speaker, Ayako Takemoto, will help us better understand these questions. She the Deputy Director of 2 private museums in Kyoto and was hired in 2016 to establish the Fukuda Art Museum with little more than a plot of land and a list of artworks. After years of planning, the museum opened just as the pandemic struck dramatically impacting the number of visitors. Join us to learn more about the challenges of running a museum in Japan and about Ayako's continuing efforts to find innovative ways to promote her museums and attract visitors.

We look forward to seeing you on October 27th!
