Kyoto Outing with Sandra Isaka

The entire outing will be canceled in the event of rain.
Join us for a day wandering off the beaten track in Kyoto with Sandra Isaka, who was our guest speaker in June. We will enjoy a relaxed riverside picnic, a visit to Sandra’s restored machiya, and a walking tour of the historic Yoshidayama district.
Timeline of Activities
- 10:45–11:00 Meet at Keihan Demachiyanagi Station, Exit 7 (ground level)
- 11:00–12:15 Riverside picnic lunch
- 12:30–13:00 Visit to Sandra’s machiya
- 13:00–17:00 Yoshidayama walking tour
Two options for the outing are available (choose one):
① Picnic Lunch & Machiya Visit
We will have a relaxed picnic by the river, and then Sandra will guide us on a short visit to her beautifully restored machiya.
- Meeting time: 10:45–11:00 at Keihan Demachiyanagi Station, Exit 7 (ground level) We’ll start out promptly at 11:00. If you’re late, look for us along the riverside delta — we’ll be easy to spot (and hear)!
- Location: Riverside area near Demachiyanagi Station and Sandra's machiya
- Ending time: 13:00
- Cost: Free

② Picnic Lunch, Machiya Visit, and Historic Yoshidayama Tour
Meet at Demachiyanagi Station, Exit 7 (ground level). We will have a relaxed picnic by the river and then go to Sandra's machiya. After viewing the machiya, Sandra will lead us through Kyoto’s historic Yoshidayama area — visiting temples and shrines, walking through a scenic cemetery, and enjoying a short tea-and-sweets break along the way.
- Participants: Maximum 15 people (Members have priority through November 14; nonmembers may register from November 15.)
- Cost: ¥3,500 (includes two temple visits, tea and sweets, and the guide fee) Please bring exact amount in cash.
- Sign-up: Email Margarite as instructed below. A waiting list will be maintained if needed.
